The College has enrolled undergraduate students according to the first-level discipline of materials since 2018. After one-year’s general courses, the students are distributed to the three secondary-level disciplines: Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, and Materials Forming & Control Engineering.

1 Materials Science and Engineering

The secondary-level discipline of Materials Science and Engineering has the national first-class programs for undergraduates, involves in the Pilot Education and Training Program for Excellent Engineers (Ministry of Education), and passed the evaluation of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association in 2018.

The aim of the undergraduate programs is to arm the students with solid basic knowledge, excellent ability in engineering. The programs cover the basic theories and professional skills related to the whole process of scientific research and engineering practice in materials science, such as materials composition/structure, preparation/synthesis, testing/characterization, and performance/application.

The trained students are expected to scientists, engineers or managers active in the fields of metallic materials & heat treatment, light alloy engineering, material fabrication or building materials, full of humanities and scientific literacy, as well as the innovative spirit and international vision.

2 Metallurgical Engineering

The secondary-level discipline of metallurgical engineering stands at the forefront position with a long history among the Chinese universities. With the national first-class programs for undergraduates, it also involves in the Pilot Education and Training Program for Excellent Engineer (Ministry of Education), passed the evaluation of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association in 2018, and selected as the featured specialty in “the Three Special Action Plans” of Chongqing municipality.

The specialty investigates basic scientific and engineering problems on the extraction, quality improvement and continuous casting of metallic elements, in order to develop strategies that combines intelligence, green, high efficiency with low consumption, via emerging metallurgy with related disciplines such as resources, environment, materials, big data.

The students are expected to master the basic theory and professional knowledge in the field of advanced engineering, be able to solve complex engineering problems regarding modern metallurgy, and grow up as the inter-disciplinary talents capable of production operation, quality control, engineering design, technological innovation and enterprise management in metallurgy and related fields.

3Materials Forming and Control Engineering

The secondary-level discipline of Materials forming and Control Engineering is an inter-discipline involving two first-level disciplines: materials science and mechanical engineering. It is also the first-class undergraduate specialties in Chongqing municipality. The specialties focus on the principles, processes and equipment of engineering material forming, production automation and intelligence, etc. After systematic scientific training of additive manufacturing such as casting, stamping, welding and 3D printing, the students are able to alter the macroscopic shape, microscopic structure and performance of materials. The students are also expected to be able to solve complex engineering problems, be characteristic of innovative spirit, be full of humanities, science literacy and international vision, and eventually emerge themselves as excellent scientists or experts in engineering design, quality control, enterprise management related to material forming.
